Massage
I have been trained and certified in the following modalities:
Swedish Massage
The is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. One of the primary goals of Swedish massge technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. It is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
The four common strokes of Swedish massage are:
- Effleurage: a smooth, gliding stroke used to relax soft tissue.
- Petrissage: the squeezing, rolling, or kneading that follows effleurage.
- Friction: deep, circular movements that cause layers of tissue to rub against each other, helping to increase blood flow and break down scar tissue.
- Tapotement: a short, alternating tap done with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand.
Deep Tissue Massage
The techniques used in deep tissue are designed to search out knots deep within the muscle and ease them out, without pain. It is also a more focused type of massage, as I work to release chronic muscle tension or knots called adhesions. Many people expect deep tissue massage to be an hour of intense pressure and pain but that is counterproductive. Instead I go slow and steady working with your body to release on its own getting much better results.
Trigger Point Massage
A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may reduce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache.
Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage for trigger point therapy, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.
The results and benefits of trigger point massage are releasing constricted areas in the muscles thus alleviating pain. You can experience a significant decrease in pain after just one treatment. Receiving massage with trigger point therapy on a regular basis can help naturally manage pain and stress from chronic injuries.
I use a combination of all of these methods to suit your individual needs. Along with the modalities listed above, with your permission, I use the energy of hands on healing throughout the massage session. More often than not when the massage is over you get up from the table needing to take some time to come back to this world.
I specialize in lower back pain as well as neck and shoulder issues. With over 22 years of experience I am able to bring relief to clients with chronic pain that they were unable to obtain from any other methods.
My greatest passion in all of my endeavors is giving a massage that heals, centers, energizes and comforts.
